On September 11, 2001 Stephen Siller (an FDNY fireman assigned to Squad 1) was off-duty when he learned about the unfolding tragedy at the World Trade Center and he hurried toward the city to assist. When security & traffic prohibited Siller from crossing into Manhattan via the Brooklyn Tunnel, Siller left his car and slung his firefighting gear over his shoulder – and he ran to the Twin Towers. He was last seen alive on West and Liberty Streets where he, more than likely, went looking for his Squad, all of whom perished. The Tunnel to Towers Run retraces Stephen’s footsteps on that fateful day.
This story of selflessness and herosim is an insparation to all of us and embodies the true sprit of brotherhood amongst firefighters. To honor Siller and the other 342 firefighters killed that fateful day, several staff members of Traditions Training will participate in the 2009 Tunnels to Towers Run on September 27, 2009.
As part of our efforts, we are participating in the fundraiser for the Stephen Siller Children’s Foundation. All contributions will go directly to this noble cause.
