Video: OVM / Roof FF Helmet Cam with Tips

View Comments

TT Instructor Joe Brown put together an excellent video featuring his role at a recent fire as the tillerman of the 1st due truck (DCFD Truck 17).  Much of his actions are dictated by DCFD SOP’s -- they show only part of the duties of a well coordinated “box alarm” assignment.  Joe’s duties are essentially that of outside-vent and roof firefighter.

The video also features tips throughout.  Be sure to take a look and post your thoughts below!

Great Job Joe! It is great to see the proactive steps taken by both the engine company and the truck on this incident. People should pay close attention to the initial size-up of nothing showing and then look at the practiced steps taken by the engine company of making the stretch to the structure with their attack line. And then of course the truck crew closely following with all the tools required of their duties. The Combat Readiness of the department and the members proved how this aggressiveness pays off. But then again I would expect nothing less from DCFD.

That is great video Joe. It shows how the job should be done in a routine easy going way.Ventilation side A-cleaning out the WHOLE window-, roof and side C. I really like the ‘extend the ladder you got on the porch roof to access the roof’ deal. If it works use it. Perfect showing of thinking outside the stuff you were taught in school. Again, great job Joe and thanks for sharing.
